Information about the research The last mile in goods distribution is one of the most critical issues in cities, where more efficient, sustainable and innovative alternatives are needed. At the same time, e-commerce business models grant consumers with a superior influence in the logistics performance. The increase in e-commerce will result in more fragmented freight distributed under more restrictive time constraints and one of the consequences of this is an increase in Light Goods Vehicles (LGV) and the miles driven by these vehicles in urban environments. This will produce an increasing amount of externalities including congestion and pollution. Achieving solutions that alleviate the negative impacts of e-commerce also requires changes on the consumer’s side, and only then it will be possible to reach more efficient and sustainable e-commerce goods distribution. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research focusing on the implications of e-commerce for city logistics and sustainable transportation. The research aims to facilitate the understanding of how logistics can be made more efficient by a closer adaptation to the needs of the customer, for instance as in the case of pick-up points. This position will be partially funded by the Area of Advance Transport (AoA Transport). Research in the AoA Transport is organized in profiles and this postdoctoral position will be part of the profile Transport efficiency and customer adapted logistics. The postdoctoral researcher will also benefit from collaborations with the Urban Freight Platform. Major responsibilities The primary duty as a postdoctoral researcher is to perform own research, as a member of a research group, to participate in ongoing and future projects at the division, and to publish the results in highly-ranked journals. The position includes teaching up to 20 per cent of your working hours, in courses in relevant areas. The applicant is expected to conduct empirical research as primary activity, foremost applying a quantitative research approach. The research is expected to be conducted in a collaborative fashion in various constellations within the academic community and in interaction with industrial partners. The candidate is expected to take an important role for collaboration within academia, industry and with society at large. The research requires the applicant to interact with industry, have ability to plan and organize the work, and be able to communicate the scientific results, both to the public and industry and, importantly, through scientific publications in highly-ranked journals within the subject area. Position summary Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1). The candidate have to live in the Gothenburg area during the postdoctoral period. The applicant must have good presentation skills in English (oral and written) and a proven ability to publish results from research in academic journals. The applicant must also have knowledge of and proven ability to conduct research in close interaction with industry or other professional organisations. Documented experience of project management and administration would be an advantage. Other highly desirable experiences and skills are: - Access to a well-developed research network. - Access to a well-developed professional network. - Experiences of collaborations with partners outside academia. - Ability to collaborate and  having social skills. - Experience in working in teams and managing projects. - Ability and willingness to conduct interdisciplinary research. - Documented experience in using quantitative research methods.
